The Government of Tonga has secured financing from the World Bank toward the cost of the Tonga Climate Resilience Transport Project (TCRTP). The Project development objective is to “improve the resilience of the transport sector in the Recipient’s territory, and in the event of an Eligible Crisis or Emergency, to provide immediate response in such Eligible Crisis or Emergency”.
The Ministry of Infrastructure is the Implementing Agency for the TCRTP and is responsible for the achievement of the Project Development Objective and the implementing of works and securing services and goods in order to effectively and efficiently implement the Project. The TCRTP is funding works on the outer island ports including dredging, the Ha’apai airport runway as well as obstacle limitation study for the ‘Eua airport, road works on selected priority roads across Tonga’s road network including road safety works and a road sector vulnerability study, studies in the transport sector and transport management area, transport sector safety campaigns, advisory services and training and capacity building.
The Ministry of Infrastructure on behalf of the Government of Tonga intends to apply part of the proceeds to contracting of staff for the Project Support Team (PST). The PST is part of the operational structure of the Ministry and is responsible for the implementation of the Project’s plans and activities and reporting to the Ministry.
The PST consists of: Safeguards Specialist responsible for ensuring compliance with the safeguard’s requirements of the Government of Tonga and the World Bank.
The following position is available for an initial period of 2 years and a possible 1-year extension. The occupant of the position are full-time consultant under contract to be signed between the Ministry and the individual consultant; Safeguard Specialist.
