13th November, 2018 Mr. Sione Finau Sisifa of Lofanga, Lotofoa, Mo’unga’one Ha’apai, and Fasi Mo e Afi ‘A Tungi Tongatapu has been re-appointed as the Solicitor General, Office of the Attorney General, following an official decision made by the Public Service Commission with effect from the date of signing of the Chief Executive Officer contract (i.e. today, 6 November, 2018) for a period of four (4) years.
As Solicitor General, Mr. Sisifa has the responsibility of ensuring the effective and appropriate governance across Tonga’s legislative and legal frameworks and for providing Government with high quality legal advice and representative on all matters of law. In addition, he will be responsible for managing the administrative, operational and broader functions and activities of the Office of the Attorney General.
Mr. Sisifa currently holds a Bachelor of Law (1999), a Professional Diploma in Legal Practice (2000) both from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji.
His career in the public service began in 2000 as an Assistant Crown Counsel in the then Crown Law Department. In March 2005, he was promoted to the position of Crown Counsel and later in June 2007 to the position of Assistant Senior Crown Counsel in the same Department. Mr. Sisifa was later appointed as the Solicitor General for the Office of the Attorney General in 2014 where he continued to serve until the end of his contract on 4 November, 2018.
Mr. Sisifa is a Law Practitioner and Commissioner for Oaths in the Kingdom of Tonga, and is also a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of Fiji. He is a former President of the Tonga Law Society having been elected and served two (2) terms commencing in September 2016 until September 2018. Mr. Sisifa is also a member of various Regional Law Associations including the Pacific Islands Maritime Law Association, and Pacific Prosecutor’s Association.
