30th July, 2018 The Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva opened today the PIDC Advanced Immigration Executive Leadership and Management Strategic Planning Workshop for Executive officers from the Pacific Islands Immigration Agencies. This workshop will be from 30th July to 2nd August, 2018.
This PIDC Executive Workshop is one of the key activities and priorities of PIDC through a joint strategic planning programme. This workshop will provides an opportunity for Pacific Immigration agencies to come together to map out through their collective experience a strategic directions and goals to address present and future migration and border control issues.
The Hon. Prime Minister acknowledge in his opening remarks the initiatives of PIDC for organizing such Executive leadership workshop on strategic planning, for the Immigration Department of the region. He highlighted that setting the Plan right in the regional level, such as PIDC forum, will of course provide directions for the members in the national level that will contribute to the effective management of irregular migration and serious immigration related organised crimes, including people smuggling and human trafficking across our region.
Pacific Immigration Development Community (PIDC) is a forum for official Immigration Agencies of the Pacific Region that was established in 1996 as a result of an initiative taken by the first PIDC, sponsored by the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat. The PIDC permanent Secretariat office is based in Apia, Samoa.
