28th July, 2018 The Ministry of MEIDECC joined other government ministries today at Funga Manamo’ui’s field to showcase renewable energy equipment and reports that have been published and are now available for the public.
Chief Environmentalist Ms. Mafile’o Masi from the Department of Environment under the Ministry of MEIDECC said that the Agricultural Show presents a platform for line ministries including MEIDECC to raise awareness about their work and services.
“Tongatapu’s Agricultural Show is the main expo for Tonga so this presents an opportunity for the ministry to raise awareness about our work and the services offered. The people that visited our booth were interested in the information that we displayed about disaster management, environment, renewable energy and climate change.”
“The King visited our booth and he expressed his desire if the ministry can provide two solar powered tuk tuk to Ha’apai and the two Niuas.”

Masi said that the ministry will now work to accomplish His Majesty’s wish.
She said that most of the people who visited the booth were youths and they were interested in the work carried out by the ministry.
Among the equipment that MEIDECC displayed include solar powered tuk tuk, solar water pump, published reports and pamphlets about how people should prepare for a natural disaster, environmental impact assessment and others.
Government ministries who joined MEIDECC at the Agricultural Show included the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Ministry of Commerce, Consumer, Trade, Innovation and Labour, Department of Geology under the Ministry of Land, Survey and Natural Resources.
