13th July, 2018 King Tupou VI opened Vava’u’s Agricultural Show 2018 today at Niponi Ground at Makave, Vava’u.
In his royal address he said that in 2020 the United Emirates will host an expo and they have extended invitations to many countries around the world including Tonga.
“This expo will look at the local made products, ideas behind the start-up of the products and the markets available for these goods.”
“The products that Tonga can display in this expo are small but their financial values are significant such as vanilla because countries around the world desire it, fresh and healthy fishes, sea cucumbers and pearls.”
He stated that the Ministry of Fisheries work to ensure that marine resources are sustainable is ongoing.
“Many islands have joined the Special Management Area programme. The ministry also carries out research about seaweed farming and fish traps.”
He thanked the people Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, farmers, fishermen, women development groups, business sector and the consumers for joining Vava’u’s Agricultural Show 2018.
His Majesty concluded his address by urging the people of Vava’u to join the 2020 expo and to think about local made products that can be displayed in the event.
