14th March,2018 Her Royal Highness Princess Angelika Latufuipeka Tuku’aho, High Commissioner of the Kingdom of Tonga to Australia today donated food for the Tonga Power line mechanics.
The food donation will assist the 80 staff that have dedicated their time and effort to get power back on to all homes and businesses following the wrath of Tropical Cyclone Gita.
TPL General Manager for Operations Setitaia Chen said, “This gift of food from the Princess is a welcome blessing and I am sure it will be appreciated by the staff. It will help us with the cost of feeding our team as large amounts of food and water are delivered each day to cater for the daily needs of these staff”.
He adds, “Tonga Power has committed a large number of staff towards the network restoration in Tongatapu. They need food and water on a daily basis to be able to carry out the works to restore power”.
The food donation were distributed to the areas where the crew worked today including Navutoka, Liukava, Fo’ui, Keleti Beach Resort, Sia’atoutai, Mataika, Halaleva, Kolofo’ou and Tofoa.

The princess also visited Tonga Power Ltd office to receive a briefing on the importance of Renewable Energy and how it impacts Tonga’s foreign aid relationships with overseas countries.
In her capacity as Tonga’s High Commissioner to Australia, she met with the Minister for Public Enterprises and Health, Hon. Dr. Saia Ma’u Piukala, Chairman of the Utility Board, Carl Sanft and was briefed by Andrea Tora, TPL Strategic Development Manager, TPL Acting CEO and Finance Manager Steven ‘Esau and Setitaia Chen.
The First Secretary for the High Commissioner, Leonaitasi Kuluni acknowledged the work done by Tonga Power Limited on efforts to restore power to the people. He also emphasized how renewable energy is an interesting topic in their line of duty.
Also present during this visit was the CEO for the Ministry of Public Enterprises, Sione ‘Akau’ola, Dr. Leimoni Taufu’i, CEO for the National Retirement Benefit Fund and members of the senior management team.
