07th June, 2017 The Department of Environment has organised a number of activities this week to mark Environment Week.
The first one was a Television and Radio programme highlighting the theme “Connecting People To Nature”, which was aired and screened at the weekend.
The programmes featured senior staff of the Environment Department who shared the work the Department is doing and what we need to do to ensure that our environments are kept clean, healthy and sustainable.
At the same time the Ridge To Reef Project, which is under the Department’s portfolio, has also organised a ‘Photo Competition’ on the theme, asking people to send in their photographs through the project’s Facebook Page – UNDP Tonga R2R – IEMP FLC Project.
A panel of judges will select the winning entries.
Entries will close on Thursday, July 8.
Another activity that is being held this week is the distribution of plant seedlings to some of the schools on Tongatapu.
That is being done in partnership with the Department of Forestry.
Also ongoing this week is the Waste Clean-up within the Kolofo’ou and Ma’ufanga communities.
June 5, 2017 is the official Environment Day worldwide and the Environment Week runs from June 4 to June 10.
