08th February 2016 The Tonga Ridge To Reef (R2R) project team held an information sharing meeting with District Officers from the Fanga’uta Lagoon Catchment area yesterday morning at the National Emergency Management Office (NEMO) Conference Room here in Nuku’alofa.

The meeting provided the opportunity for R2R Project Manager Ta’hirih Hokafonu and her team to update the District Officers on the Project Steering Committee meeting held on January 26 and the Fanga’uta Lagoon Catchment Stewardship Plan.
It also gave the District Officers the chance to air their views on parts of the Stewardship Plan that needs some review and changes, as per decision of the PSC meeting two Fridays ago.
The meeting also heard from project consultant on waste management, Talita Helu, who updated the District Officers on the waste/clean up campaign in 2016.
One of the issues discussed at the meeting is the current “Stop Stray Pigs” campaign that is being planned for areas within the Fanga’uta Lagoon Catchment area.
The R2R team also received some suggestions and proposals that would be tabled at future meetings of the Technical Working Group and the Community Management Committee.
Meanwhile, the Community Management Committee (CMC) meeting is planned for Nukuleka village on Tuesday, February 14 at 10am.
The Technical Working Group (TWG) will next meet on Thursday, February 23.
