2nd February, 2017 A significant increase in the regulated price of diesel has been approved by the Competent Authority effective 16 January 2017.This has contributed to an increase of 15.40 seniti per litre (13.8%) from $1.1124 per litre in September 2016 to $1.2664 per litre in January 2017.

As a result, this has increased the cost of fuel required for power generation by 9.03 seniti per kWh (12.2%) from the current 73.99 seniti per kWh to 83.02 seniti per kWh. This is to recuperate the under recovery of fuel costs of $2.5 million over the last 4 months since the last tariff review in September 2016.
The Electricity Commission has approved the new power tariff effective for the power consumption from 2nd February 2017.

The revised tariff rates approved by the Electricity Commission are as follows:

Feb2nd -TPL

The Electricity tariff is regulated by the Electricity Act and administered by the Electricity Commission. The tariff adjustment is determined by a process set down in the Concession Agreement between Tonga Power Ltd and the Electricity Commission. The Competent Authority is the Tongan Government Agency which sets the landed price of diesel which Tonga Power Ltd uses for their power generation.

Thank you,
Tonga Power Limited.
