‘Eua Faka’ofo’ofa Music and Poetry Night – Building Peace! Fostering Knowledge! For a Beautiful Tonga

12th October, 2020 Residents of ‘Eua were treated to an evening of poetry and music on Thursday, 8 October 2020 together with the Guest of Honour, Minister for Trade and Economic Development, Hon. Samiu Kuita Vaipulu, Minister for Tourism, Hon. ‘Akosita Havili-Lavulavu and delegates from various Government Ministries.

There were two themes for each category of Poetry and Song which were “The Ministry of Tourism for a Beautiful and Clean Tonga to Curb COVID-19″ and Successful projects of the current government”. There were twenty-three participants divided into three groups for the poetry competition and five Kava Clubs competing for the best new composed song for each theme. This competition is part of the ‘Eua Faka’ofo’ofa (Beautiful ‘Eua) Festivities hosted by the Ministry of Tourism to mark World Tourism Day and the beginning of the Ministry’s outer-island tour of village inspections at ‘Eua, Ha’apai, Vava’u and the two Niuas.

Mr. Sione Finau Moala-Mafi, CEO for Ministry of Tourism welcomed the participants and attendees to the event and stated that the Ministry wishes to continue its partnership with the communities, villages, development groups and churches together with ‘Eua’s MP and Minister of Finance & National Planning, Hon. Tevita Lavemaau, to uplift the economy and social standard of living for a beautiful and clean Tonga. Despite the bad weather, the Hon. Minister of Tourism and staff were committed to fulfilling their work plans for the tour. Hon. ‘Akosita Havili-Lavulavu acknowledged the people of ‘Eua for their efforts and willingness to raise funds to contribute to the road works at ‘Eua. She also commended them for maintaining a beautiful and clean environment attributing it to the collective efforts of ‘Eua’s MP and her people. Two lawn mowers were gifted to the villages of Kolomaile Ha’atu’a and Sapa’ata for their support and participating in the first round of the Ministry’s ‘Eua Faka’ofo’ofa village inspections held earlier in the year.
