28th September 2016 The Department of Climate Change under the Ministry of MEIDECC is hosting a one day at the division’s conference room under the theme ‘Climate Change Information and Knowledge Management Workshop’ aiming to ensure that climate change related data and information is discoverable and can be accessed by government officials, stakeholders, NGOs and civil societies.
CEO for MEIDECC Mr. Paula Pouvalu Ma’u said providing information and data on climate change was important so that the public can be aware of the issue and its impact.

“Climate Change is a global issue but only a few of us know about it and it is the government’s role to help the people especially those who are more vulnerable in providing and sharing of climate change related data and information to alert them. Whether it’s on climate change mitigation or adaptation but to have in place these information to protect them from its risks,” he said.
The workshop is divided into 3 sessions; Introduction to the regional Pacific Climate Change Portal (PCCP), Introduction to the National Tonga Climate Change Portal and Organisational Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) training.
Conducted on behalf of the iCLIM Project implemented by SPREP and Griffith University the workshop planned to create awareness PCCP, Tonga CC Portal and its different contents, search functionality and to provide users with the skills to navigate around the portal and how to locate information.
The Pacific iCLIM project aimed to enable better climate change resilience and adaptation planning in Tonga, Fiji and Vanuatu by improving the ability of regional bodies and government to discover, store, access and utilize climate change information and data. To achieve this goal Griffith University would collaborate with SPREP in their role in delivering data to Pacific Island countries via the PCCP.
The training’s facilitators are Ms. Rebecca Brown from Griffith University, Climate Knowledge Information Specialist Phillip Marsden and Management Officer Makelesi Gonelevu from SPREP.
