Signing of the Regional Cooperative Framework for the Japanese Technical Cooperation Project for Promotion of Regional Initiative on Solid Waste Management in Pacific Island Countries Phase ΙΙ (J-PRISM ΙΙ)

21st September 2016 The CEO of MEIDECC, Mr Paula Ma’u represented the Kingdom of Tonga in signing of the Regional Cooperative Framework for the Japanese Technical Cooperation Project for Promotion of Regional Initiative on Solid Waste Management in Pacific Island Countries Phase ΙΙ (J-PRISM ΙΙ) on the 19^thof September 2016 at the Millennium Hall in Alofi, Niue. 

Four (4) out of eight (8) countries receiving technical support from J-PRISM ΙΙ participated in the event including Federated States of Micronesia, Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.  The remaining countries including Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu, Marshall Islands and Palau will participate at a later event.

J-PRISM ΙΙ is a continuation of J-PRISM Ι which was successfully implemented in Vava’u with the rehabilitation of Kalaka Landfill and the improvement of waste management in Neiafu.  The second phase will focus on strengthening the capacity of Waste Authority Ltd in the Outer Islands for the next 5 years.
