13th September, 2016 Tonga is being represented at the Analysis and Application of Himawari-8 Data Regional Training being held in Nadi, Fiji Islands from the 12th – 16th September 2016 by two of the Tonga Meteorological Services Forecasters Mr. ‘Aisea ‘Akauola and Mr. Laitia Fifita.
This one week intensive regional training is being organized and led by experts from the Government of Japan under the JICA Agency as well assistance from the staff of the Fiji Meteorological Office. This regional training is one of the key trainings provided to National Meteorological and Hydrological Services whereby operational forecasters meets and share experiences in operations also to receive advance technical trainings in the utilization of himawari-8 data.
This regional training will intensively focus on the Basics of meteorological satellite and satellite analysis, Practical training on utilization of RGB composite and related products, Satellite Analysis Training, Overview of Tropical Cyclone Analysis, Dvorak technique, Satellite Microwave TC Analysis also the training on the utilization of related software for forecasting and analyzing satellite imageries. This training will further improve the capability of the Tonga MET Office to enhance its early warning systems to monitor and forecast severe weather and tropical cyclones.Turning early warning into early action will save lives and property”.
This 1 week regional training is being attended by 10 pacific island National Meteorological and Hydrological Services across the pacific from Kiribati, Nauru, Samoa, Niue, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, Tonga, Cook Islands, Tuvalu and Fiji.
