19th August, 2016 The Ozone Layer Protection Division of the Department of Climate Change, MEIDECC is currently conducting a National Survey and Inventory of Ozone Depleting Substances Alternatives in the Kingdom. The survey is funded by the Multilateral Fund Secretariat through UNEP and its main objective is to assist Tonga to better understand its historical and predicted consumption trends for ODS alternatives, including medium, low and high global warming potential (GWP) alternatives, and their distribution by sector and subsector.

The surveys will also provide the country with a comprehensive overview of its national markets where ODS alternatives have been and will be phased in, while taking into consideration other existing technologies. It is expected that both consumption and production data will be collected, where available.

Representatives from Government Ministries, Private Sectors and Businesses from Ha’apai and Vava’u were invited to attend a one day consultation workshop before undertaking the survey questionnaires.
