July 7th, 2019 Mr. Sione Pulotu ‘Akau’ola of Kanokupolu, Nukunuku, Hihifo Tongatapu has been reappointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Ministry of Public Enterprises following an official decision made by the Public Service Commission with effect from the date of signing of the Chief Executive Officer contract (i.e. today, 26 June, 2019) for a period of four (4) years.
As Chief Executive Officer, Mr Ákauóla has the responsibility of implementing government policies and decisions, and for managing the administrative functions and operational activities of the Ministry. He will also be responsible for developing and leading programs to continually improve the effectiveness and efficiency of service delivery outcomes.
Mr. ‘Akau’ola holds a Masters of Business Administration (2003) and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Economics and Management & Public Administration (1999) from the University of the South Pacific, Fiji.
Mr. ‘Akau’ola’s career in the public service began in 1999 when he was appointed to the position of Assistant Secretary in the then Establishment Division of the Prime Minister’s Office. Since then, he has taken over senior positions in various Government Ministries including acting appointments in Head of Department positions such as Acting Secretary for Marine and Ports, Acting Secretary for Civil Aviation, Acting Secretary for Transport, and Acting CEO for Public Service Commission. Mr Ákauóla was the acting Chief Executive Officer for the Ministry of Public Enterprises from 24 October, 2014 until 24 June, 2015. On 25 June, 2015, Mr Ákauóla was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer for the same Ministry where he continued to serve until the end of his contract on 25 June, 2019.
