07th June, 2019 Tonga National Sustainable Development (TNSDB) has elected three reps from the Ministry of MEIDECC, Civil Society Forum of Tonga and Tonga Chamber of Commerce and Industry to represent Tonga at the 2019 Pacific Island Development Forum (PIDF) Conference and Governance meetings next month in Suva, Fiji.
The election of the Tonga’s representatives followed after a two-day PIDF Capacity Training Workshop at Fa’onelua Convention Centre which wrapped up this afternoon with a certificate presentation ceremony.
The workshop aimed to:
- Discuss and endorse the manual for the membership, governance and terms of reference of the TNSDB
- Gather views of the multi-stakeholder members on the regional issues and priorities addressed by PIDF
- Ensure that TNSDB provides inclusive participation and promote active engagements from Tonga at the regional level
- Provide capacity training for TNSDB members, elect the nominated representatives from government, civil society organizations (CSO) and private sector to represent Tonga at the biennial PIDF Conference, among others.
TNSDB is an in-country multi-stakeholder board that works together to localize PIDF’s priorities, ensure synergies and integration with national priorities and harness co-benefits and synergies. TNSDB include reps from line ministries, CSO, private sector and the Prime Minister’s Office as the secretariat.
