05th April 2019 TONGAN His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon Magnus of Norway arrived Fua’amotu International Airport this afternoon on his first official visit to Tonga. He was accompanied by Norway’s Minister of International Development Dag-Inge Ulstein.
The visit is part of his three-nation tour to the Pacific including Tonga, Fiji and Samoa which aims to strengthen Norway’s partnership with South Pacific island states to promote interests in the United Nations and areas of international cooperation such as oceans, climate change, peace and security.
Crown Prince Haakon and his delegation which include Royal Household Staff members, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, advisors and media were welcomed by His Royal Highness Prince Ata, His Serene Highness Prince Tu’ipelehake, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Tourism Hon Semisi Sika, Secretary for Foreign Affairs Mr. Mahe Tupouniua and the Chief Secretary and Secretary to Cabinet Mr. Edgar Cocker.
He will attend an Official Welcoming Reception this evening at the Consular House hosted by Their Majesties King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u.
Crown Prince Haakon will meet with DPM Sika tomorrow at St. George Palace followed by a visit to sites impacted by climate change in the Western District.
He will depart Tonga tomorrow for Fiji and he will wrap up his tour in Samoa next week.
