21st February, 2019 The Police Drug Enforcement Taskforce continue to disrupt and target those who supply drugs to the communities in Tonga, with the latest arrests of seven people in three different locations yesterday Wednesday 21 of February 2019.
The first arrest was of a 43-year-old man, who was arrested with 1 pack of methamphetamine (0.23 grams) in Havelu.
The second arrest was of a 47-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman from a residence in Pahu with 1 pack of cannabis (0.36 grams) and drugs paraphernalia. Police also arrested a third person, a 34-year-old man of Vaini who arrived with 10 packs of methamphetamine (2.84 grams) while Police were at this location.
The third arrest was of three people from a residence in Vaini, a 24-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man. They were arrested with three packs of methamphetamine (1.18 grams) and one pack of cannabis (0.86 grams).
Deputy Commissioner Pelenatita Vaisuai said, “In order to make our streets and homes safe we need to rid our Communities of illegal drugs.”
While Police are taking proactive and active measures to address the issues relating to illicit drugs, members of the public are asked to contact Police if they observe any suspicious or unusual behaviour in their communities.
All seven suspects are in police custody while investigation continues.
