30th January, 2019 TONGAN The operation team onboard Reliance have identified another fault on the Fiji side of the first fault to the international undersea cable which connects Tonga through the Southern Cross Cable Network to Fiji.
CEO of Tonga Cable Limited Mr. Edwin Liava’a who is onboard Reliance said the second cut was found this morning after 2am.
“After locating the first fault several tests were run and we found out that there is another fault. The ROV was then re-launched last night to trace the second fault.”
The ship will return to the location of the first fault to carry out further tests on the Tonga side. Once the tests are successful, the team can provide an accurate estimate for the operation to be completed on the international cable.
