29th January 2019 Latest report obtained by MEIDECC from the cable repair ship ‘Reliance’ verifies that fault of the international cable has been located. The report also confirms that the cable has shifted towards South-East from where it was laid. The cause of this shift is yet to be determined.
Officials from the government and representatives from the communications and network providers met with Reliance’s Operation Manager Mr. Luis Rey last night to go over the method of procedures before the ship departed Queen Salote Wharf to one of the breakdown’s locations.
The remotely operated vehicle (ROV) which find and locate the broken undersea cables was launched this morning.
The timeframe of the restoration period is yet to be confirmed.
