02nd May, 2018 The Climate Change Trust Fund (CCTF) approved a total of four Water Tank project proposals for Pangai, Fangale’ounga, Ha’ano and ‘Uiha of the Ha’apai Islands. The successful applicants will each be given fifteen water tanks, collecting up to 5,000 litres per tank.

The training confirmed with the four communities that their requests for assistance from the CCTF were approved by the Board and enhanced their understanding of the fund’s procedures and expectations in regards to the maintaining and monitoring of the implementation stage up to completion of the projects.

The Ha’apai Training Program, held at the Red Cross Training Centre in Pangai, was led by the project’s coordinator Feleti Fa’otusia and engineering specialist Vaha’akolo Palelei with the assistance of MEIDECC staff traveling from Tonga. The participants consisted of local town officers and representatives of village committees whose projects for water tanks were approved. The program ended successfully with the signing of the project contracts between the beneficiaries and the CCTF to commence the implementation process.

CCTF is funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) as a component of the Ministry of MEIDECC: Department of Climate Change’s Climate Resilience Sector Project (CRSP).
