24th April 2018 The International Organization of Supreme Audit Institution (INTOSAI) Development Initiative (IDI) with support of the Pacific Association of Supreme Audits Institutions (PASAI) is hosting a week long workshop on strategic planning management and reporting at Tano’a International Dateline Hotel.
Facilitator and Programme Manager at INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) Ms. Dafina Dimitrova said the purpose of this workshop is to equip eleven participating supreme audit institutions from the region with strong tools to strengthen their planning process, and to be able to monitor the implementation of their strategic planning.
“We are working on strategic planning management and reporting, there was a previous program that took slightly over two years in which those Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs) also did each assessment of their organization or institution on strength and weaknesses. They had to gain a base line as to where they are right now in order to be able to put their plan with respect to their future activities.”
Dimitrova said, a similar workshop will be held after a year from now where they will collaborate with supreme institutions to finalize their plans and set up a proper framework relating to strategic plan.
“This is very important because Pacific Island Supreme Audit can share a lot of common challenges and we believe that through initiatives like this one they can not only learn from us but can just importantly learn from each other.”
Chief Executive of PASAI Mr. Tiofilusi Tiueti said participating countries will have to look at how to improve their work, including Tonga.
“This program gives them an opportunity to have a long – term plan, how to use it, how to evaluate it to a level that it will meet the expectation from the public.”
“We already did the Performance Measurement Assessment, including the balance and independent of the work, and then we bring the results and try to form up a plan in which it can be used in the future to improve the work and gain public trust and confidence in what we are doing.”
This is the first time IDI and PASAI conduct such workshop for the Pacific region.
Participating in the workshop are representatives from eleven countries in the Pacific including Tonga. A representative from New Zealand is also attending the workshop.
IDI is the International Audit Organization based in Norway. PASAI is the Pacific Audit’s Association under IDI based in Auckland New Zealand.
