23rd April, 2018 The Prime Minister, Hon Samuela ‘Akilisi Pohiva, has welcomed the appointment of the Prince of Wales as the Head of the Commonwealth during the Retreat of the Commonwealth Heads of Government at Windsor Castle on Friday, 20 April.
The Hon Prime Minister said, “During the discussions at the Retreat I was in total support of the appointment of the Prince of Wales as the Head of the Commonwealth. For me there was no need for any further discussion of the matter during our Retreat as Her Majesty the Queen had clearly expressed that that was her wish whilst officially opening this year’s meeting.”
In her address to the Commonwealth Heads of Government at Buckingham Palace on Thursday 19 April, Her Majesty said, “It remains a great pleasure and honour to serve you as Head of the Commonwealth and to observe, with pride and satisfaction, that this is a flourishing network.
It is my sincere wish that the Commonwealth will continue to offer stability and continuity for future generations, and will decide that one day The Prince of Wales should carry on the important work started by my father in 1949.”
